American retirees purchased a new apartment in Jerusalem and made extensive renovations before moving in.
In the middle of their renovations, they received their annual property tax bill which charged them thousands of shekels for the period since purchasing the apartment.
By chance, they turned to Israeli Shortcut and heard vital information they were unaware of. They were told that a property which is undergoing renovations for a period of at least 30 days can receive an exemption for property tax due to it being unfit for living, up to a period of 6 months. One must furnish proof of the renovations.
The couple were thrilled to hear this news, which saved them a large unnecessary payment. They celebrated the dedication of their new home with a sizable saving.
