For the First Time in Israel - a Law to Establish an Immigrant Day
21.06.2016
Now, for the first time in Israel's history, a day dedicated to new and veteran immigrants and to the institution of immigration will be anchored in law.
Proposed by Israel Beiteinu faction chairman MK Robert Ilatov, MK Dr. Abraham Bitton (Likud) and MK Yechiel Bar (Zionist Camp), the day of commemoration will fall on 7 Cheshvan.
Israeli Shortcut thanks the Knesset members for promoting a day that will commemorate the institution of immigration and will focus the public’s and leaders’ attention on the needs of the immigrants.
“From the earliest days of the State, Israel was built up through immigration from all parts of the world, “Immigration continues until today and is still propelling the State of Israel forward. Since immigration has been a defining feature of Israel, a day celebrating its pivotal effect on the State is an idea whose time is long overdue.”
